IIAM is the only institution in India approved by the International Mediation Institute (IMI) at The Hague, Netherlands, which is formed for the purpose of certifying international standards for mediators and for implementing the Global Mediator Competency Certification. The President of IIAM is a Member of the IMI Independent Standards Commission and the IMI Ethics Committee.

IMI has been granted Special NGO Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), which is a founding UN charter body, established in 1946. NGOs accredited with ECOSOC may designate official representatives to the United Nations Headquarters in New York and the United Nations offices in Geneva and Vienna, to attend and contribute to sessions of ECOSOC and other UN Inter-Governmental decision-making bodies. IMI is the only mediation body to hold Consultative Status. This status will enable institutions, companies and others associated with IMI to represent the mediation field in deliberations at UN level.

IMI has also endorsed the IIAM Community Mediation Service and the former Chairman of IMI is deputed as Member of the Advisory Board of IIAM.

The IIAM Arbitration Rules adopts the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules 2010, which enables the IIAM Rules to administer arbitration at accepted global standards. IIAM is a member of the Asian Mediation Association (AMA). AMA brings together the leading mediation centres in the Asia-Pacific region and provides access to resources for the settlement of business and commercial disputes in Asia, involving Asian businesses and business cultures. AMA also formulates guidelines for Mediation training courses and mediator accreditation within the Asian countries.

IIAM is a member of the Asia Pacific Regional Arbitration Group (APRAG). APRAG is a regional federation of arbitration associations which aims to improve standards and knowledge of international arbitration and will make submissions on behalf of the region to national and international organisations. This co-operation is unique and is a reflection of the growing importance of international arbitration in Asia and Australasia, the fastest growing economic area in the world.

IIAM has signed a MOU with Singapore International Mediation Centre, Singapore for promotion of international commercial mediation and to facilitate, co-organise and co-host lectures, conferences and seminars on topics in the area of international commercial mediation in each other’s jurisdictions.

IIAM has signed a Twinning Agreement with Afghanistan Centre for Commercial Dispute Resolution, a body within Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI). The principal activities of the relationship between the Centers will be to cooperate and coordinate with each other to provide their respective clients with the best services for dispute resolution when disputes may arise within their respective countries, including disputes between or among members residing or located in each of the Centers’ countries. The President of IIAM is a Member of the International Advisory Board of ACDR.

IIAM has entered into collaboration with the highly ranked Dispute Resolution Institute at Hamline University School of Law, Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA to promote ADR in India. Under the mutual cooperation, Indian lawyers can apply to 24 credit Hamline LL.M for International Lawyers and receive substantial scholarship for tuition. IIAM and Hamline had also conducted national moot competition on ADR for Indian Law Students.

IIAM has entered into a Mutual Co-operation agreement with ADR Chambers (UK) Limited, a leading international organization of professional dispute resolution providers, in the United Kingdom. The purpose of the mutual co-operation is to mutually assist and guide each other in the various fields of ADR and to help the members of the institutions for effectively resolving their dispute in either country.
IIAM was the first International Associate Member of the Civil Mediation Council of the United Kingdom, the accrediting body for Mediation Providers. The Civil Mediation Council recognized IIAM's role and work in India and the importance of mutual cooperation in the development of international mediation links.
